Shoreline Finishes on a Win

BSB-ShCC-Olympic-Tsoi-0013The Shoreline Dolphin Baseball team finished the season against the Skagit Valley Cardinals last weekend. Shoreline fell to the Cardinals in the early games of the series but were able to prevent the sweep in game four.

The Dolphins began the series at home after being postponed due to field conditions on Saturday. Mitch Mondor was on the mound in game one. Both teams had  a slow start with no runs scored until the fourth inning. The Cardinals struck first scoring taking a 2-0 lead off of a triple by Yusuke Akitoshi.

Shoreline struck right back. Jorgen Arnesen hit a double to start the Dolphins off and was able to score on a sacrifice hit by Mitch Hoveke. With only two hits in the game the Dolphins were unable to score again fell 1-4.

In game two Shoreline was led by right handed pitcher Mike McCormack. Jacob Zanon paced Shoreline at the plate going 2-4 with a triple in the eighth inning. Zanon drove one in and scored for the Dolphins.

Cody Wolfe and Sam Ballweg also had a great at bats. Wolfe went 3-4 behind the plate and scoring one run and Ballweg was 2-3. Even with the bats connecting the Dolphins could not keep up the the Cardinals and lost to 4-8.

The next day in Skagit, Shoreline came out scoring early. Hoveke stole second after being walked and was batted in by short stop Joshua Fitch and right handed pitcher Chase Kairis started strong keeping the lead for the Dolphins.

BSB-ShCC-Olympic-Tsoi-0056The Cardinals looking to earn a spot in the NWAACC Playoffs with a win struck back scoring seven runs. Shoreline first basemen Arnesen hit a home run in the third to keep the Dolphins in the game.

Josh Lang came to the mound in an effort to hold off the Cardinals but Shoreline was unable to make up for the early deficit and lost 6-9.

Shoreline had a slow start in the fourth game of the series not scoring until the fourth inning. Brad Bennett kept the Dolphins together for the full game throwing 147 pitches for six strike outs.

The Dolphin bats were strong against the Cardinals with 8 of the 9 batters getting hits. Hoveke was strong again going 3-6 at the bat scoring 1 run. Zanon was also a spark collecting three hits for an RBI and a score.

Coming together in the final game the Dolphins won 6-5 over the Cardinals giving Bennett his first win of the season.

Shoreline finished with a record of 10-24 on the season. They look to improve in the upcoming season only retiring seven sophomores.
