Weekend Surf Report – Dec 22

Welcome to the first edition of the Surf Report, Shoreline Athletic Department’s new weekly newsletter covering all the athletic happenings over the last week.

MBX | The men’s basketball team hosted Green River on the 16th in The Aquarium.  A 2nd half rally, which found the Phins up by 1 late, fell short as the Gators prevailed 78-69.  Adam Johnson, Marquis Armstead, & Ryan Reyes all finished with 15 apiece.  The guys were out-rebounded 39-27 against a good rebounding team. Over the weekend, the Phins traveled to Moses Lake to participate in the Big Bend Crossover Tourney.  The weekend started out rocky against a very good Big Bend team.  Big Bend, the host and eventual tournament champion, found their way to the charity strip 28 times-cashing in on 20 of those freebies-and topped the Phins 82-65.  For the Phins, Marquis Armstead scored 16, Ryan Reyes had 14.

The next two games were much improved.  The 2nd round game against Tacoma saw shooting percentages up, turnovers down and a notch in the Win column with the boys topping the Titans 79-75.  Skyler Kelley led the Phins in scoring with 22.  Armstead added 17 and Josh Laboucane had 10 with 7 boards.

In the 3rd/6th place game, the Phins defeating Mt. Hood 77-72.  The defense forced the Saints to commit 21 turnovers, which the Phins converted into 14 points.  Armstead led all scorers with 31.  Kelley added 11 and Laboucane chipped in 10.  Wes Owen led the team in boards with 6.

Congratulations go out to to Marquis Armstead & Skyler Kelley for being named to the All-Tournament Team.  Armstead scored a total of 64 points.
