It was a good day Saturday (April 25th) for the Dolphin’s baseball team as they swept Skagit Valley in a two game series to move their league record to 9-7. Brad Bennett grabbed the win after pitching 6.2 innings and only giving up one earned run, Bennett moved his record on the year to 6-1.
It didn’t take the Dolphins long to get on the board, scoring early in the bottom of the first. Drey McInnes led off the game with a single and stolen base. This set up Jacob Zanon to get his first of 3 RBIs on the night. Zanon finished 2-for-3 and raised his season batting average to an eye popping .440.
After runs in the first and second innings Shoreline’s bats broke out in the fifth. After the first two batters of the inning reached base, it was Zanon’s turn again. With runners at the corners Zanon hit a ball into the outfield to single in two more runners.
As it would turn out the Dolphins would need every run they scored. Going into the seventh up 5-1 things looked to be safely in hand. Unfortunately a fielding error would lead to three unearned runs to make the score 5-4. Not to worry, Shoreline shut the door on Skagit Valley’s late game rally and secured the win 5-4.
The Dolphins went on to beat Skagit Valley 8-7 in the second game of the double header. The double header sweep moved Shoreline up to third in the conference. The Dolphins are 7-3 in their last ten.
