The Surf Report – October 12th


The Shoreline soccer programs hosted Everett Community College on Saturday, October 10th. Both programs continue to fight for an NWAC playoff spot. Catch up on everything from this weekend below:

Men’s Soccer entered Saturday’s match trailing Edmonds by two points for the final NWAC playoff spot. In the first round of league the Phins defeated Everett 5-1 and needed all 3 points from the return l-5skbV9vMptLqUi1vtZGRaginVbCA3YD60Ovyv2tpMfixture to keep pace with Edmonds. Shoreline wasted no time getting on the score sheet in the 11th minute as Alec Somers scored in his second consecutive game. Despite a number of first half chances the Phins were unable to add to their lead until the 69th minute. Lukie Martinez forced a save from the Everett goalkeeper off a beautiful free kick and Adrian Torres was the first to react giving the Phins a 2-0 lead. Everett would pull a goal back in the 77th minute finishing a penalty to make it 2-1. The Phins got an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Ryan Anderson took on three Everett defenders on the left wing then played a cross that got a final touch from Somers. Shoreline held on for the last 6 minutes and walked away with all 3 points.

The victory pushed Shoreline to 3rd place and in sole possession of the last NWAC playoff position. The Phins travel to Whatcom on Wednesday, October 14th to finish off the second round of league play. Their next home game is Saturday, October 24th at 3:00pm in a huge match up with Edmonds.

Women’s Soccer entered their match up with Everett holding a 4 point lead over Skagit Valley for 3rd place. The Phins scored early to take a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. The Phins’ lead would not last long as Everett answered in the 13th minute to tie the game 1-1. Everett would take a 2-1 lead in the 21st minute and put the game away with a goal in the 73rd minute. Naza Hernandez had 3 saves and Amanda Aversano recorded 5.

The Phins remain in 3rd place with a 4 point lead over Edmonds and Skagit Valley. Shoreline travels to Whatcom to close out the second round of league. Their next home match is Saturday, October 24th at 12:30pm against Edmonds.
