The Surf Report – October 15th

Region play is winding down for the Shoreline Dolphins’ Fall sports programs and the NWAC playoffs are just around the corner. Catch up on all the action from Wednesday, October 14th below:

Volleyball finished off the first round of league play with a home match against Edmonds Community College. The Phins came into the match sititng in 2nd place in the North region standings needing a win to keep pace with first place Bellevue. Shoreline did not waste anytime and swept Edmonds in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-21). Carlie Howard had 35 assists and 5 digs. A’Laisia Redden added 8 digs. Anya Eq6ucEkMm-hqmx6FWeXJyonnReEbnIqglIjfookDkWwGolubitskikh led the team with 11 kills. Taylor Alexander had an all around game with 9 kills, 6 serving aces, and 8 digs.

With the win the Phins improve their record to 19-5 on the year and 5-1 in region play. Next up the Phins travel to Lower Columbia College to participate in the NWAC Crossover on Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th. After the trip Shoreline begins the second half of league with a road match at Everett on Wednesday, October 21st they then host Bellevue in a battle for 1st place on Friday, October 23rd at 7pm.

Men’s Soccer traveled to Whatcom to take on the league leading Orcas. Shoreline went down early giving up a goal in the 34th minute. However, the Phins refused to give up and pulled a goal back in the 60th minute thanks to Matthew Moisant. Jerry Reyes stopped 6 shots to preserve the draw. 21 Moaisant Action

With the draw Shoreline closes out the second round of league play in 4th place with 13 points. The last round of league play begins Saturday, October 17th with a trip to Peninsula College. The Phins are in prime position to make an NWAC playoff run with huge match ups against 3rd place Skagit Valley and 5th place Edmonds on the horizon. The Phins’ next home game is Saturday, October 24th at 3pm against Edmonds.

Women’s Soccer also made the trip to Bellingham to take on the Orcas of Whatcom College. Coming into the game the Phins sat in the 3rd and final playoff spot looking for a win to increase their margin over 4th place Whatcom. Unfortunately the Phins came out flat and went down a goal in the 33rd minute. Whatcom would get the second goal of the game in the 78th minute. Trailing 0-2 Shoreline finally got on the scoreboard with a Sam Bell goal in the 79th minute off a Mikayla Morgan 5 bell actionassist. The late come back effort was not enough and the Phins dropped the game 1-2.

The loss closes the gap between Shoreline and Whatcom going into the final round of league play. Shoreline remains in 3rd place but only has a 1 point lead over Whatcom. The Phins travel to Peninsula College on Saturday, October 17th and their next home game is Saturday, Ocotber 24th at 12:30pm.
