Fall Sports are in the last round of league play and all three programs continue to push for NWAC playoff spots. Catch up on all the action from Wednesday, October 21st and the latest playoff info in The Surf Report.

Women’s Soccer traveled to Skagit Valley to take on the Cardinals. The Phins came into the game trailing Whatcom by 2 points for the final NWAC playoff spot. The Phins got an early goal from Tayler Lime in the 20th minute and held the 1-0 advantage for the next 70 minutes to get the needed 3 points. Amanda Aversano recorded 8 saves and Naza Hernandez added 2 saves to combine to shutout Skagit Valley.

Whatcom also won on Wednesday so the Phins remain 2 points behind the last NWAC playoff position. The Phins have 3 games remaining including a match up with Whatcom on the last day of the season. Next up the Phins host Edmonds on Saturday, October 24th at 12:30pm. Every point counts as the women look to push into the 3rd place and an NWAC playoff birth.

Volleyball began their final round of league play with a trip to Everett. Heading into the match the Phins sat in 2nd place in the North Region standings just a game behind Bellevue. The Phins are also currently ranked #5 in the latest NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches Poll. In Wednesday’s match Everett took a commanding 2-0 set lead. As they’ve done all year the Phins rallied back and took the next 2 sets to force a deciding 5th. However the come back would fall short as Shoreline dropped the match (19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 13-15).

The good news for the Phins – Bellevue also dropped their match on Wednesday night setting up a battle for 1st place on Friday, October 23rd at 7pm in the Aquarium. If you haven’t caught a game this year make sure this is the first one you attend! Come support the Phins as they try to claim 1st place in the North Region!

Men’s Soccer also made the trip to Skagit Valley. The Phins came into their game trailing Skagit Valley and Edmonds for 3rd place by just 1 point. Shoreline began a barrage of goals in the 2nd half with an Angel Alcaraz finish off a Victor Ruelas assist in the 46th minute. Skagit would answer 23 minutes later and then take a 2-1 lead with another goal in the 72nd minute. The Phins fought back and Ryan Anderson earned a point for Shoreline with a goal in the 82nd minute. The 2-2 draw kept the Phins 1 point behind Skagit Valley in the North Region standings. Both teams trail Edmonds for 3rd place as the Tritons got a win and 3 points on Wednesday.

Next up for the Phins is a home match with those Tritons from Edmonds on Saturday, Ocotber 24th at 3pm. A win would push Shoreline into a tie with Edmonds as Skagit Valley hosts 1st place Peninsula.

Be sure to check back Monday to get caught up on the ever changing playoff picture for the Phins’ Fall Sports Programs.
