The Shoreline Dolphins Women’s Soccer team takes on Spokane in the first semi final of the NWAC Soccer Championships Saturday, November 13th at 10:30am at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila. This is the Dolphins first trip to the final four since 2008. A win and Shoreline would have the best finish in school history.
The Dolphins have ridden a hot defensive streak through 3 straight elimination games to reach this point. In the last game of North Region play the Phins needed a win against Whatcom to secure a playoff spot. Shoreline was led by Chelsea Foster as she scored a goal and carried the defense in a 1-0 victory. In the first round of the playoffs the Phins defeated Bellevue in penalties after a 1-1 draw through 110 minutes of soccer. Goalkeeper Naza Hernandez saved a penalty to help the Phins to a 5-3 shootout win. Next the Phins traveled to Lane where they won in yet another penalty shootout. This time Hernandez saved two penalties as the Phins won 4-3 in the shootout.
The Phins’ opponent in the semi final is perennial powerhouse Spokane. Spokane won the East region and boasts one of the best scoring offenses in the NWAC. Spokane has scored 80 goals on the season and has the the leading scorer in the NWAC on their roster in Alysha Overland who has 28 goals on the season.
