NWAC Fall Sports Awards

Volleyball won the North Region and heads into the NWAC Tournament ranked #6 in the NWAC. Men’s Soccer came up just short in reaching the NWAC tournament but they were in the race until the last day of the season. Women’s Soccer made the NWAC tournament on their last day of competition and proceeded to knock off two league champions on their way to the semifinals.

All of the success is being recognized by the NWAC. We detailed our Soccer NWAC All-Stars here last 4RHLaZuH2iJf70a26gS_IX03TsjKag8Rpe_zwWhaU5Qweek and now it is time for our North Region Championship Volleyball team. Head Coach Raquel West was named Coach of the Year of the North Region. Sophomore Anya Golubitskikh was named to the North Region First Team after a season in which she led the team with 186 kills and 38 total blocks. Freshmen Taylor Alexander joined Golubitskikh on the North Region First team with a fantastic all around season. Alexander was second on the team with 184 kills, and added 31 total blocks, while providing defensive help with 138 digs and leading the team with 32 service aces. Sophomore Kristina Nielsen was the third of the Phins’ hitters to be recognized as she received a North Region Second Team award. Nielsen recorded 141 kills and added 35 total blocks on the year. Freshmen Setter Carlie Howard was also named to the North Region Second Team. Howard had 573 assists on the season and added 28 kills. Defensively Howard recorded 14 total blocks and added 117 digs.

Three Phins were awarded the NWAC Fall 2015 Academic Excellence award. Chelsea Foster (Women’s Soccer – 3.55 GPA), Tony Tran (Men’s Soccer – 3.46 GPA), and Malia Parilla (Volleyball – 3.27 GPA) were all recognized for their hard work in the classroom.
