Phins Get First Round Win

Redden dig2The Shoreline Dolphins Volleyball team opened their NWAC Championship Tournament with a match against Pierce College on Thursday, November 19th. The Phins came into the tourney as the North Region #1 seed after their North Region regular season championship. Pierce won a play in game against Gray’s Harbor to make the tourney as the #4 seed from the West Region.

Pierce started the match fired up taking the first set 25-21. TheHoward serve Phins recovered and steadied themselves in the second set coming away with a tight 25-23 victory to tie the match at a set apiece. Shoreline would go onto win the 3rd and 4th sets (25-21, 25-22) to take the match 3 sets to 1. The Phins were led by a solid all around performance from Taylor Alexander. Alexander led the team with 14 kills and did great work defensively with 6 blocks and 17 digs. A’Laisia Redden led the team with 19 digs and Carlie Howard added 13 digs to go with her 37 assists. Anya Golubitskikh and Kristina Nielsen added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

The win moves Shoreline into the second round to take on Walla Walla at 12:30pm Friday, November 20th. Walla Walla was the 3rd seed out of the Walker attackEast Region and beat Clark in their first round match up. The Phins played Walla Walla once this year in the Lower Columbia Crossover. Shoreline won that match 22-25, 25-20, 15-13. If the Phins can beat Walla Walla they will play a second match on Friday at 6:30pm against the winner of Linn-Benton and Highline.
