The Surf Report – December 9th

Shoreline basketball hosts Highline in a non-league contest at Shoreline CC Main Gym, Shoreline, Washington on December 5, 2015.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball continued their pre-Region schedule this past Saturday as they each hosted a tough opponent out of the West Region. The Men’s team took on the #4 team in the NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches poll in the Highline Thunderbirds. The Women’s team took on the Titans of Tacoma. Catch up on all the action below!

Men’s Basketball came into their game against Highline riding a 2 game winning streak. The Phins had held double digit leads in all 3 of their games to open the season, but would have to play from behind against Highline. The Phins went down as many as 12 points in the 2nd half, and came back all the way to within 1 point before dropping the game 73-80.

Shoreline was led by Freshmen Will Luckett with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Smarr add 14 points and Skyler Kelley chipped in with 12. Derrik Dean rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points. Ben Steinbrueck led the team with 4 assists and 3 steals. The Phins play in the Bulldog Classic at Bellevue College next weekend and open with Walla Walla at 3pm on Friday, December 11th.

Women’s Basketball came into their game with a 1-1 record after defeating Green River and dropping

a game to Highline. The Phins were able to force 25 turn overs in the game but could not overcome being out rebounded 51-27. Shoreline dropped the game 66-77. Dani Hayes scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, had 7 steals and dished out 6 assists. The Phins were led in scoring by Fatuma Abu with 14 points. Darrien Dolquist-Larson and Enjunay Jones-Lee scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Phins travel to Pierce College on Wednesday, December 9th to take on the Raiders. After this game the Phins play in two tournaments to close out 2015 before beginning league play. Shoreline is now 1-2 on the season.
