The Surf Report – December 15th

Men’s and Women’s Basketball each competed in 8 team tournaments over the weekend. Read on to catch up on all the Phin action!

Shoreline women's basketball hosts TacomaWomen’s Basketball traveled to Everett to play in the Everett Community College Women’s basketball Classic. On Friday, December 11th the Phins took on Big Bend from the tough East Region. Shoreline jumped out to a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held onto lead 30-23 at the half. The Phins extended their lead in the 3rd quarter leading 43-34 going into the final stanza. Unfortunately the Phins shooters went cold in the 4th quarter and after leading most of the way dropped their first game to Big Bend 48-53. Darrien Dolquist-Larson led the Phins with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Janaya Williams added 15 points and 6 assists. Paris Sanders led the team with 10 rebounds.

The loss dropped Shoreline into the loser’s bracket where they would take on Green River from the West Region in game 2.Shoreline women's basketball hosts Tacoma Shoreline used a 19-9 2nd quarter to take a lead that they would hold throughout to a 57-49 victory. Dolquist-Larson again led a balanced attack with 13 points. Sanders led the team in rebounds once again with 12. Dani Hayes returned to the lineup and scored 12 points.

In game 3 the Phins took on Southwestern Oregon from the South Region. The Phins could not overcome a 9-17 first quarter deficit and trailed the whole game on their way to a 55-72 loss. Hayes led the team in scoring and assists with 13 and 8. Sanders again led the team with 11 rebounds.

Shoreline women's basketball hosts TacomaThe weekend record of 1-2 dropped the Phins to 2-5 overall. Paris Sanders was named to the All-Tourney team for her dominance on the boards throughout the weekend. The Phins play one more warm up tourney before North region play begins. Shorleline travels to Port Angeles for the Peninsula Crossover. The Phins will open up the tournament on Thursday, December 17th with a 3:00pm matchup against West Region team Centralia.

Men’s Basketball played in the Bulldog Classic at Bellevue College. The Phins opened up with the sharpshooting Warriors of Walla Walla. Down 2 at the half the Phins could not find the bottom of theShoreline basketball hosts Highline basket in the 2nd half. Shoreline shot just 23% in the 2nd half and gave up 44 points to Walla Walla. The Phins dropped the game 58-81. Shoreline was led by Will Luckett’s double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Derrik Dean was the only other Phin in double figures with 12 points. Devan Jackson gave a boost off the bench with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

In the loser’s bracket Shoreline took on North Region rival Olympic College. The Phins came out on fire against Olympic hitting 11 three point shots in the first half on their way to 50 first half points. The Phins extended their lead in the second half and came away with a 110-77 victory. Jason Smarr led all scorers with 28 points off of 7 for 10 from the three point line. Dean added 20 points while Luckett led the team with 6 rebounds to go with his 16 points. Joe Ghebrehiwot and Skyler Kelley were the other two Phins in double digits with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.

Shoreline basketball hosts HighlineIn game 3 the Phins took on Wenatchee Valley from the East Region. Shoreline had another poor shooting half as they made just 29% of their 1st half shots. The Phins were lucky to only be behind 1 point 33-34 at the half. In the 2nd half the Phins heated up once again and shot 70% from the field including 6 of 7 from the three point line. The Phins ran away with an 84-77 victory. Dean led the Phins in scoring with 22 points. Gadisa Margasa came off the bench to score 13 points and hand out 4 assists. Smarr and Ghebrehiwot each scored 11 points. Luckett led the team with 10 rebounds to go with his 9 points. Jackson once again provided a spark off the bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds.Shoreline basketball hosts Highline

The 2-1 weekend record moved the Phins to 4-3 overall. Will Luckett was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 13 points and 9 rebounds for the tournament. Shoreline travels to Yakima for their crossover and open with Tacoma on Thursday, Dcember 17th at 5:00pm.
