The Surf Report – January 25th

Men’s and Women’s Basketball took to the road on Saturday, January 23rd for a basketball doubleheader with Edmonds. The North Region is heating up as the first round of play comes to an end. All of the exciting basketball action is below in this week’s Surf Report.

Shoreline CC Women's basketball team hosts Olympic CollegeWomen’s Basketball came into their game with Edmonds riding a 2 game win streak in the North Region. With a 2-2 record through 4 games the Phins looked to extend their win streak and improve their chances for a top 4 finish in the North Region. Shoreline jumped out to a 20-17 1st quarter lead over Edmonds, but a slow second quarter found the Phins trailing 26-32 at the half. In the 3rd quarter Shoreline battled back to head into the final stanza tied at 51. In the 4th quarter the Phins were never able to take control as Edmonds pushed to a 67-63 victory.

The Phins were led by Enjunay Jones-Lee and her 25 points. Jones-Lee also grabbed 5 rebounds. Paris Sanders was the only other Phin in double figures with 10 points to go with her team leading 8 rebounds. Janaya Williams scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 6 assists and added 4 steals in a great all around performance.

The loss drops the Phins to 2-3 in North Region play with an overall record of 4-10. Shoreline’s next home game is against Everett on Wednesday, January 27th at 5:30pm. Everett currently sits 1 game ahead of the Phins in the North Region standings. Shoreline finishes the first round of North Region play with a trip to Port Angeles for a game against the defending NWAC Champion Peninsula Pirates.

Men’s Basketball also came into their game with Edmonds sitting at 2-2 in the North Region. Shoreline CC Women's basketball team hosts Olympic CollegeEdmonds was ranked #3 in the latest NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches Poll. The Phins struggled in the 1st half only shooting 25% from the field on their way to a 27-47 half time deficit. The 2nd half was not much better for the Phins as they dropped the game 58-92.

In the loss the Phins were led by Joe Ghebrehiwot’s 16 points. Gadisa Margarsa scored 15 points for the Phins. Jason Smarr led the team in rebounding with 9 to go with his 12 points. Torrence Baker scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Devan Jackson led the team with 2 steals and also scored 7 points.

The loss drops Shoreline to 2-3 in the North Region and 7-9 overall. The Phins host Everett on Wednesday, January 27th at 7:30pm. Everett is one game ahead of the Phins at 3-2 in the North RegionĀ standings. Shoreline will travel to take on Peninsula on Saturday, January 30th to finish out their first round of North Region play.
