The Surf Report – February 18th

Men’s and Women’s Basketball took to the road on Wednesday, November 17th for the 4th time in 5 games with a North Region match up against Whatcom Community College. The Surf Report has all your Phin highlights!

Shoreline CC Women's basketball team hosts Olympic CollegeWomen’s Basketball beat Whatcom in the first round by a score of 69-57 and needed another win to keep pace with Everett for the final North Region playoff spot. The Phins jumped out to an early 19-16 first quarter lead. Whatcom came back in the second quarter to take a 1 point lead into the half time break. In the second half the Phins took complete control holding Whatcom to just 10 point and 13 points in the final two quarters respectively. The Phins got a big 71-58 victory on the road.

The Phins got two huge performances from Enjunay Jones Lee and Darrien Dolquist-Larson. Jones-Lee led the Phins with 29 points while Dolquist-Larson added 21 to go with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Dani Hayes scored 6 points and led the team with 8 assists. Paris Sanders grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the team on the glass.

The Phins are two games behind Everett for the 4th playoff spot out of the North Region. Shoreline hosts Edmonds on Saturday, February 18th at 2pm. Then the Phins travel to Everett on Saturday, February 24th in a game that may very well decide the 4th place finisher in the North Region.

Men’s Basketball lost to Whatcom by a score of 79-62 in their first match up of the season. On Shoreline CC Women's basketball team hosts Olympic CollegeWednesday night Whatcom jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game. Shoreline never got going in the first half and went into the break down 24-34. The second half started just like the first as Whatcom extended their lead to 47-30. The Phins shooters  woke up in the last 16 minutes as Devan Jackson (4), Jason Smarr (3) and Skyler Kelley (2) combined for 9 second half three pointers. The Phins came all the way back to tie the score at 57 with 2 and a half minutes remaining, however Shoreline could never take a lead and dropped the game by a final of 59-57.

In the loss the Phins were led by Jackson’s 18 points off the bench. Smarr scored 13 and grabbed 4 rebounds. Kelley finished with 8 points and led the team with 6 rebounds. Point guard Ben Steinbrueck led the team with 10 assists. The Phins are now 3 games back of three teams tied for 2nd through 4th place with 3 games remaining on the North Region schedule. The Phins host Edmonds on Saturday, February 20th at 4pm.
