Spring is officially here and with that means all kinds of Shoreline Dolphins action on the diamond. Softball and Baseball are finishing up their pre-Region schedule with a full slate of games. All of last weekend’s action is detailed below in this week’s Surf Report.
Softball has been dealing with weather issues throughout the early part of their season but the Phins were able to get a doubleheader in with Pierce College on Friday, March 18th. In game 1 of the doubleheader the Phins struck first with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, but gave up 6 runs over the next two innings creating a deficit that they could not come back from. Shoreline added a run in the top of the 6th, but eventually dropped the game to Pierce by a score of 3-7. Drew Camacho went 1-2 from the plate with a double and a run scored. Shelby Reyes went 3-4 with a triple and Sarah Casel had 2 RBIs.
In game 2 freshmen Pitcher Dakota Green got her first start of the season and took advantage of her opportunity pitching a complete game shut out and only giving up one hit. The Phins’ offense came alive in the second game as well as Shoreline produced 8 runs on 11 hits. Chelsea Foster, Kathryn Goff and Alyssa Giesbers all produced multi hit games. Goff also knocked in 4 runs while Foster added 2 RBIs.
The win moved Shoreline to 2-2 on the year. The Phins host 4 games over Easter weekend. On Friday, March 25th the Phins take on Chemeketa at 1pm and 3pm at the Everett Boys and Girls Club. On Sunday, March 27th the Phins host Grays Harbor at Meridian Park at 12pm and 2pm.
Baseball had a weekend series with Wenatchee Valley with all four games on the road. On Saturday, March 19th the Phins began the series with a doubleheader. In game 1 the Phins pitched Connor Anderson and got a great performance from the Freshmen Pitcher. Anderson went 8 and 2/3s innings scattering 4 hits and giving up no runs. The Phins bats scored 7 runs on 6 hits thanks to doubles from Pete Pennylegion, Sheldon Rouzan and a triple from Drey McInnes. The Phins took game 1 by a score of 7-0. In game 2 on Saturday the Phins entered the 7th inning tied at 2, but got 5 runs in the top half of the inning to pull away for an eventual 7-4 victory. Payton Mackin got the start on the mound and the win as he struck out 11 and only gave up 4 hits. Joe barnett got the save with a solid 2 inning performance. David Becker had a big game from the plate with a double, a home run and 5 RBIs.
On Sunday, March 20th the Phins completed their weekend series with Wenatchee with another doubleheader. The story of this game was a complete game from Pitcher Sam Boone. Boone struck out 15 batters and only allowed 2 runs through 7 innings. Becker and Rouzan turned in multi hit games once again and leadoff man Chris Watkins joined them with 2 hits of his own. The Phins won game 1 by a score of 6-2. In game 2 on Sunday the Phins got an early 1 run lead and tacked 2 more on in the top of the 7th to hold off Wenatchee 3-2. Myles Gouveia got the start and struck out 8 batters on his way to the win. Max Dwyer got the save. Chantz Justice and McInness both had doubles while Pennylegion had 2 hits and an RBI.
The weekend sweep gives the Phins 5 straight wins and moves Shoreline to 5-7 on the year. The Phins head to the East Region once again for 2 games against Walla Walla on Saturday, March 26th and 2 more on Sunday, March 27th against Columbia Basin.
