The Surf Report – April 8th

Spring sports are in full swing with the start of North Region play. Softball and Baseball have played a number of games over the last week so strap in for an extra large Surf Report!

4 Chelsea FosterSoftball played one last doubleheader before starting North Region play with a road trip to Bremerton to take on Olympic College on Saturday, April 2nd. In game 1 the Phins were held scoreless through the first 5 innings but scored 2 in the 6th to take a 2-1 lead over Olympic. In the top of the 7th the Phins added one more run to hold a 3-1 lead as Olympic came up for their last at bats. In those last at bats Olympic managed a 2 run rally to force extra innings. Olympic sealed a walk off win with a run in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Phins 4-3. Dakota Green got the start for the Phins and scattered 3 runs over 8 innings, but left in a tie game and got a no decision for the game. Emily Jackson went 3 for 4 from the plate with 2 runs scored and a stolen base.

In game 2 the Phins had to come from behind once again as Olympic scored the first 2 runs of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Phins then scored 6 runs over the next 4 innings to hold onto a 6-4 victory. Green got the start and the win and Kathryn Goff pitched 4 innings only giving up 1 run to seal the victory. The bats came alive for Shoreline in game 2 led by Aubri Burmood’s 2 solo home runs. Alyssa Giesbers and Jaysee Willmorth each had their first double of the season as well. The Phins also stole 5 bases led by 2 from Sarah Casel.

On Tuesday, April 5th the Phins opened up North Region play with a trip to defending North Region 14 Aubri Burmoodchampion Douglas College in Vancouver, Canada. In game 1 the Phins struggled to warm up after their international car ride losing in the 5th inning 0-8. In game 2 the Phins went down 5-1 after 2 innings, but refused to leave Canada without a victory. Shorleine chipped away at the Douglas lead eventually tying the game up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. In the top of the 7th the Phins scored 2 more runs and held off the Douglas come back attempt to win 8-7. Goff got the complete game victory and had 2 RBIs to help her cause. Chelsea Foster went 3 for 4 from the plate with a double and an RBI. Jeralyn Pasoquen had a double and an RBI.

The Phins have four big NWAC North Region games this wekeend. On Saturday, April 9th Shoreline travels to take on Edmonds for a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm. On Sunday, the Phins host Everett at Meridian Park for a doubleheader starting at 12pm. Shoreline is now 5-5 on the year and 1-1 in the North Region.

Shoreline CC Baseball hosts Tacoma CCBaseball played one last doubleheader before starting the North Region tilt with a trip to West Region Centralia on Wednesday, March 30th. In game 1 of the doubleheader the Phins could not muster any offense. This coupled with three big innings from Centralia led to a 0-10 loss. In Game 2 the Phins produced 16 hits and 13 runs on their way to a 13-7 victory. David Becker led the Phins going 4 for 5 from the plate while scoring 3 runs. Freshmen Danny Munoz made his season debut and went 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Drey McInness and Kyler Kedroske each hit 2 doubles producing 5 RBIs between the two sophomores.

The Phins opened up North Region play with a weekend series against the #3 ranked team in the latest NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches Poll the Edmonds Tritons. On Saturday, April 2nd the Phins traveled to Edmonds for the first doubleheader of the weekend. In game 1 the Phins pitched Sam Boone. Boone threw a gem striking out 5 and scattering 5 hits over 7 innings. Boone left the game trailing 0-2 as the Phins could not get any momentum going offensively. Tyler Navoni pitched one scoreless inning but the Phins left to runners on base in the top of the 9th inning unable to force extras. In game 2 Payton Mackin got the start for the Phins and Mackin stepped up to match his teammate Boone. Mackin went 8 innings only allowing 3 hits and 1 run to go with his 4 strike outs. Unfortunately30 Boone the Phins’ bats were quiet once again as only Becker had a multi hit game. The Phins dropped game 2 0-1, losing the first two games by a combined 3 runs on Saturday.

On Sunday, April 3rd the series moved to Meridian park. Edmonds got on the scoreboard first scoring 2 runs in the 2nd. They tacked on another run in the 4th inning to lead 3-0. In the bottom of the 5th the Phins got two home closing the gap to 2-3. Unfortunately the Phins would not score another run as Edmonds added 4 more to extend to a 7-2 victory. Game 2 played out similarly to game 1 as Edmonds jumped out to an early lead that the Phins could not match eventually falling 2-9.

The Phins are 6-16 on the year and 0-4 in the North Region. Shoreline has a weekend series with the #2 ranked team in the NWAC the Everett Trojans. On Saturday, April 9th the Phins travel to Everett for a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm. On Sunday, April 10th the Phins host Everett for a doubleheader at Meridian – first pitch at 12:30pm.
