The Surf Report – May 4th

Edmonds CC Softball hosts Shoreline CCThe Phins Softball team has hit the home stretch of their North Region schedule. Ten games remain as the Phins look to cement their spot in the NWAC Playoffs. Shoreline traveled to Everett for a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 3rd. The Surf Report has your recap from the diamond!

Everett and Shoreline split their first doubleheader of the season at Meridian Park way back on Sunday, April 10th. That day only 1 run separated the two teams in each game as Everett got a 1-0 win and the Phins took game 2 by a score of 7-6. In game 1 on Tuesday, Everett jumped out to a big early lead with a 4 run 1st inning. The Phins scored 2 runs in the 4th to tighten the gap, but Everett had another 4 run explosion in the 6th to secure an 8-2 victory. The Phins were only able to produce 5 hits throughout the game.

In game 2 the Phins got on the scoreboard early with 2 runs in the first. They added 2 more in the 3rd, but Everett answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take the lead. The Phins matched Everett immediately with 5 runs of their own in the top of the 4th to take a 9-5 lead. The Phins tacked an insurance run on in the top of the 6th and held Everett scoreless in the last 4 innings to split the doubleheader and the season series with a 10-5 victory.

The Phins’ offense scored 10 runs off 17 hits. Eight different Phins reached base at least two times. Jeralyn Pasoquen went 2 for 4 with a double and 4 RBIs. Drew Camacho went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 Edmonds CC Softball hosts Shoreline CCruns scored and 3 RBIs. Shelby Reyes went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Sarah Casel had her 21st stolen base of the season and scored 2 runs.

The doubleheader split moved Shoreline to 11-13 overall and 5-7 in the North Region. The Phins have 8 games remaining over the next 2 weeks and they currently sit in 4th place in the North Region. The top two teams from the North will get automatic bids into the NWAC Playoffs. Shoreline currently sits 3 games out of 2nd place in the loss column and has two more games remaining than the two teams ahead of them for 2nd place. There are 8 at large bids for the NWAC Playoffs that will be determined by RPI. The Phins are rated 9th overall in the RPI standings and 3rd among teams not currently sitting in the automatic bid positions. Shoreline hosts Edmonds on Sunday, May 8th at Meridian Park with the first pitch of the doubleheader at 1:00pm. The Phins will travel to Skagit Valley on Wednesday, May 11th for a make up doubleheader.
