Softball completed their regular season schedule with a road doubleheader against Skagit Valley on Tuesday, May 18th. In game 1 the Phins scored in 5 of 7 innings using their consistent offense to come away with a 9-2 victory. Dakota Green pitched 5 innings scattering 4 hits and allowing only 2 runs. Kathyrn Goff pitched a scoreless final 2 innings and went 2 for 4 from the plate with 3 runs scored. Chelsea Foster hit her first home run of the season and had 2 RBIs. Jaysee Willmorth had the only other extra base hit of hte game with a double. Sarah Casel went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
In game 2 the Phins had trouble sparking their offense as they were held scoreless through 5 innings. However, Goff completely shut down Skagit Valley’s offense throwing a complete game shut out while only allowing 6 base runners. The Phins finally broke the scoring drought in the top of the 6th inning when Cheyanne Garcia got a bases loaded single scoring Foster. The Phins would add another run in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th to get the 4-0 win. Foster, Garcia and Willmorth each had RBIs for the Phins.
With the doubleheader sweep the Phins improved to 16-16 on the year and 10-10 in the North Region. The Phins qualified for the NWAC Softball Championship with an at large bid as the 10th rated team based on RPI. The double elimination NWAC Softball Championship takes place over 4 days at Delta Park in Portland, Oregon May 20th through May 23rd. As the 10 seed the Phins will take on #7 North Idaho from the East Region at 10am on Friday, May 20th.
