Fall Sports Preview

The Fall Sports season kicks off with the NWAC Fall Sports Festival in Springfield, Oregon over the weekend of August 27th and 28th. Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Soccer are already preparing for what should be an exciting 2016 season.

CarlieVolleyball is coming off a fantastic season in 2015 with a North Region title and recognition for Head Coach Raquel West as the North Region and NWAC Coach of the Year. In 2016, Shoreline is led by a trio of returning North Region All-Stars in Sophomores Taylor Alexander, Carlie Howard and Kristina Nielsen. Alexander was second on the team last year with 3.12 kills per game and setter Howard led the Phins with 9.71 assists per game. Their first home match is Friday, September 23rd against North Region rival Bellevue College at 7:00pm.

Men’s Soccer began a new era in 2015 with Head Coach George Dremousis returning to Shoreline for hisshcc-msoc-2016-WT-25 second stint leading the Phins. In 2015 the Phins finished just 1 point out of third place and the NWAC Playoffs. The Phins return 3 players from last season. Influential midfielders Jorge Talavera and Joel Van der Giessen will pull the strings while Forward Angel Alcaraz will lead the the team from the front. The Men’s Soccer team has a local feel drawing over half their squad from Ingraham, Shorewood, Shoreline Christian, Mountlake Terrace and Roosevelt High Schools.

Women’s Soccer welcomes a new Head Coach as Josh Cardin takes the reigns of the program. In 2015 the Phins finished in 3rd place in the North Region then made a surprise run through the NWAC Playoffs all the way to the semifinal game where they lost in heartbreaking fashion 0-1 to eventual champion Spokane. The Phins return 8 players from last season led by Goalkeeper Naza Hernandez and North Region All-Star selection Mikayla Morgan. Three members of the Phins back line return with Shay Thompson, Dani Hayes and MaKenzie Matthes. Captain Rikki Quintero is back in central midfield and attacker Tayler Lime provides the scoring punch.
