The Surf Report – September 9th

Men’s and Women’s Soccer began North Region play with a doubleheader match up against Peninsula College on Saturday, September 10th. Peninsula College won the North Region for both Men’s and Women’s Soccer in 2015 with their Men taking the NWAC Championship and the Women finishing 2nd. The Phins got one of their toughest matches of the Region on game day 1 – read on and see how our Phins fared against the NWAC’s best.

Shoreline CC Men's Soccer hosts PeninsulaMen’s Soccer entered their match up with Peninsula with a 1-1 record following the NWAC Fall Fest. The Phins opened the scoring when Jacob Weingartner won the ball back for the Phins in midfield. Angel Alcaraz then played a pass to Abel Kossa who calmly took two touches before burying his shot in the back of the net. Alcaraz got a goal of his own in the 12th minute from a set piece beautifuly taken by Callahan Gobel. Peninsula scored the next 3 goals of the game to take a 3-2 lead in the 69th minute. The Phins tied the game at 3 goals apiece when Alcaraz curled a shot past the Peninsula goalkeeper in the 77th minute. The match looked like it would end in a draw when in the 90th minute a Peninsula player was brought down in the box. Peninsula finished the penalty and took the match 4-3.

The Phins are now 1-2-0 on the year and 0-1-0 in Region play. Shoreline hosts Skagit Valley on Wednesday, September 14th at 4:15pm.

Women’s Soccer opened their season with victories over Tacoma and Chemeketa in the NWAC Fall Shoreline CC Women's Soccer hosts PeninsulaFestival. On Saturday the Phins struggled to create chances offensively, but a strong performance from Goalkeeper Naza Hernandez kept Peninsula in reach. Hernandez had 9 saves on the day many of them from close range. In the 54th minute after a scrum in the box Peninsula was able to get one past Hernandez to take a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

The loss drops the Phins to 2-1-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in North Region play. Shoreline hosts Skagit Valley on Wednesday, September 14th at 2:00pm.
