Men’s and Women’s Soccer Splits With Skagit Valley

On Wednesday, September 14th our Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams continued North Region play with a Soccer doubleheader against Skagit Valley. Both teams were coming off heartbreaking 1 goal losses to Peninsula College in their opening match of Region play.

Shoreline CC Women's Soccer hosts PeninsulaA banged up Women’s Soccer team kicked off the doubleheader at 2pm. The Phins asserted themselves in the 25th minute when Defender Lex Simmons played a beautiful ball to Mikayla Morgan. Morgan took one touch to set herself and on her second touch fired a shot past the Skagit Valley Goalkeeper. The Phins controlled the remaining 20 minutes of the half dominating possession and finally capitalized when Careena Alaoui blasted a deep shot to double the Phins’ lead going into the half. In the second half the Phins continued their control of the game and doubled their lead with goals from Marileyni Francisco and Makenzie Sjoden, respectively. Naza Hernandez got the clean sheet for her second shut out of the season as the Phins went onto win by a final score of 4-0.

The win moves Shoreline to 3-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the North Region. Shorleine takes to the road on Saturday, September 17th for a match against Edmonds at 12pm. Their next home game is September, 24th at 12pm against Whatcom.

Men’s Soccer came into their match against Skagit Valley coming off a disappointing loss to Peninsula.Shoreline CC Men's Soccer hosts Peninsula The Phins had the defending NWAC Champions tied but gave up a penalty in the 90th minute that allowed Peninsula to escape with a victory. In their match against Skagit Valley the Phins were unable to create the chances they enjoyed in the previous match. Two mistakes in the first half led to Skagit Valley goals and the trailing Phins never really got into the match in the second half. Shoreline dropped the game by a score of 0 to 4.

The loss drops Shoreline to 1-3-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the North Region. Next up the Phins travel to rival Edmonds for a 2:15pm kick off on Saturday, September 17th. Their next home game is Saturday, September 24th at 2:15pm against Whatcom.
