On Wednesday, September 21st all three Fall Sports programs took to the road against Everett Community College. In a banner day for Shoreline Athletics all three teams came away with an important away victory in the North Region.
Men’s Soccer came into their matcup with Everett having lost their first 3 games in North Region play. On match day 1 the Phins gave defending NWAC Champion Peninsula all they could handle before dropping the game by a score of 4-3 on a last minute penalty. The Phins then struggled to score against both Skagit Valley and Edmonds failing to find the net in both matches. On Wednesday the Phins fell behind to an Everett goal in the 6th minute, but answered in the 20th minute with a gola from Callahan Gobel. Early in the 2nd half Angel Alcaraz gave the Phins a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. Dean Bartlett got the start in goal and had 8 saves on the day.
The win moves Shoreline to 1-3-0 in the North Region with 3 points. The Phins are 2-4-0 on the year. Shoreline hosts Whatcom on Saturday, September 24th at 2:15pm to finish up the first round of league play.
Volleyball started their North Region schedule on Wednesday night against Everett. The Phins swept Everett in 3 games by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-22. The win moves Shoreline to 1-0 in North Region play and 6-10 overall. The Phins face their league rival Bellevue College on Friday, September 23rd at 7pm.
Women’s Soccer completed the sweep of Everett thanks to a hat trick from Freshmen Forward Careena Alaoui. Alaoui opened the scoring with a goal in the 45th minute from an assist by Mikayla Morgan just before the half time whistle. Everett tied the game at 1 with a goal in the 81st minute that started a flood of scoring in the final 10 minutes. Alaoui answered immediately with her second goal in the 82nd minute. Everett scored 3 minutes later to once again tie the score this time at 2 goals apiece. But Alaoui and the Phins weren’t done and in the 89th minute Alaoui finished a pass from Madisson Lowdon to snatch the 3 points in the final minute.
With the victory the Phins are now 2-1-1 in North Region play and 4-1-1 overall. Shoreline hosts Whatcom on Saturday, September 24th at 12:15pm. A win in this match would allow the Phins to jump Whatcom in the North Region table after the first round of Region play.
