Wednesday Region Recap – September 29th

Shoreline CC Women's Soccer hosts Whatcom CCThe Fall Sports Phins continued their march through the North Region on Wednesday, September 29th. Men’s and Women’s Soccer took to the road to take on Peninsula College in Port Angeles. Women’s Soccer came into their match in 3rd place in the North Region standings after one round of play. In their first match up with Peninsula the Phins lost a close game by one goal. On Wednesday the Phins struggled to create chances on the road. Peninsula took the lead with a goal in the 29th minute and never looked back. In the 41st minute Peninsula doubled their lead and scored an insurance goal in the 78th minute to come away with a 3-0 win.

The Phins are now 4-2-2 and 2-2-2 in the North Region. They currently sit in 4th place 1 point behind Everett for 3rd. Shoreline travels to Skagit Valley on Saturday, October 1st for a 12:00pm kick off. Their next home match is against Edmonds on Wednesday, October 5th.

Men’s Soccer played a classic match against Peninsula in the first round of league play. The back and Shoreline CC Men's Soccer hosts Whatcom CCforth affair was tied at 3 goals apiece when a Peninsula player was brought down in the box in the 90th minute. Peninsula finished from the spot and left Shoreline with a 4-3 victory. In their match up on Wednesday, the Phins could not match their previous effort. Peninsula, the number 1 ranked team in the NWAC Under Armour Coaches Poll, got a tremendous performance from Cesar Gervacio as he went onto score 5 goals in the game. Shoreline was only able to force 2 saves from the peninsula keeper as they dropped the game 5-0.

The loss drops the Phins to 2-0-6 and 1-0-5 in the North Region. Shoreline travels to Skagit Valley on Saturday, October 1st and hosts Edmonds on Wednesday, October 5th at 4:15pm.

Shoreline CC volleyball team hosts Bellevue CollegeThe Volleyball team was also in action on Wednesday night as they took on Olympic College in the Aquarium. The Phins jumped out early in both of the first sets taking a 2-0 lead by scores of 25-20 and 25-16. Olympic rallied in the 3rd set for a 25-12 victory to force a 4th set. In the 4th set the Phins rebounded to take the set and the match 25-14 and 3 sets to 1. Shoreline was led on offense by 7 kills from Kristina Nielsen. Taylor Alexander added 6 kills and Kyla Pitzman had 4 of her own. Setter Carlie Howard had 29 assists in the match to go with 4 kills and 5 digs. The defense was led on the back line by Libero Julia Clack’s 12 digs. Ashlee Conklin added 9 kills. Pitzman led the team with 3 solo Blocks.

The Phins are now 7-11 overall and 2-1 in the North Region just one game back of Bellevue. The Phins travel to Whatcom on Friday, September 30th for a 7pm match. Their next home game is Wednesday, October 5th at 7pm against Skagit Valley.
