It’s an exciting time for our Fall Sports programs as they are in the thick of North Region play. All three programs have 8 games remaining on their North Region schedule and the battle for NWAC Playoff position heats up on Wednesday, October 5th as all three programs host region rivals.
Women’s Soccer kicks the day off at 2:00pm with a game against Edmonds. In their previous match up on September 17th the Phins drew with Edmonds 1-1. Shoreline is currently tied for 3rd place in the North Region table with 9 points earned. Edmonds is in 5th place with 4 points. The Phins have been battling injuries to key players all year but remain in strong position to reach the NWAC Tournament as they did in 2015 when they reached the semifinals. Shoreline is led offensively by Freshmen Forward Careena Alaoui who has 5 goals on the year. Goalkeeper Naza Hernandez has 2 shut outs in region play and 32 saves.
Men’s Soccer hosts Edmonds at 4:15pm in the second leg of our Fall Sports Triple-Header. Edmonds scored 2 second half goals to get the win in the previous game between these two sides. The Phins are coming off a big win at Skagit Valley where Sophomore Captain Angel Alcaraz added to his team leading 5 goals on the season with the game winning strike in the 51st minute. Goalkeeper Steven Moseley recorded a shut out in the match against Skagit. The Phins currently sit 3 points behind Edmonds in the North Region table making the game on Wednesday a must win for Phin playoff hopes. A win on Wednesday and Shoreline controls it’s own destiny going into the final third of region play.
Volleyball closes out the Fall Sports Triple-Header with a 7pm match in The Aquarium against Skagit Valley. The Phins remain in great position to defend their North region Title from 2015. Shoreline is currently in 2nd place in the North Region standings just one game back of Bellevue College. The Phins need a win on Wednesday night to keep pace with Bellevue. Shoreline and Skagit Valley have met once before this season when the Phins swept Skagit Valley 2-0 by identical 25-18 set scores. Shoreline is led offensively by a trio of Sophomores – Taylor Alexander leads the team with 41 kills followed by Kyla Pitzman and Krsitina Nielsen with 27 and 25 kills, respectively. Freshmen Outside Hitters Elizabeth Malmgren and Ashlee Conklin have stepped up in region play with 32 combined kills.
