Volleyball and Women’s Soccer have clinched NWAC Playoffs births as our Men’s Soccer team looks to finish the season strong. Catch up on all the action on the pitch and in The Aquarium in this week’s Surf Report.
Volleyball got their biggest win of the season on Friday, October 23rd against North Region leading Bellevue College. In their first match up of the season the Phins dropped a tight home match by the score of 3 sets to 1. This time around the Phins took control early with a 25-23 first set victory. Bellevue responded with a dominating performance in the 2nd set winning 25-13. Shoreline took the next two sets 25-12 and 25-23 to hold on for a 3 sets to 1 victory. The win moved the Phins to just one game behind Bellevue in the North Region standings. Taylor Alexander led the Phins with 14 kills and 10 digs while Freshmen Ashlee Conklin added 13 kills and 10 digs. Carlie Howard had 18 assists and 10 digs. Libero Julia Clack also added 10 digs.
Volleyball took to the road once more on Monday, October 24th to take on Olympic College. The Phins continue their 5 game winning streak with a sweep of the Rangers. Alexander again led a balanced Phins’ attack with 14 kills and 10 digs. Howard recorded 26 assists and 6 digs. Next up the Phins hosted Whatcom on Wednesday, October 26th. Shoreline got their second sweep in a row by set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-19. Alexander led the Phins with 13 kills and an Attack Percentage of .480. Clack led the way defensively with 18 digs. Howard had 39 assists and 5 serving aces.
Shoreline is now 16-12 on the year and 8-2 in the North Region. The Phins have clinched a spot in the NWAC Tournament and are now focusing on seeding and a possible repeat North Region title. Shoreline is currently 1 game behind Bellevue and will need some help to share the title. The Phins travel to Skagit Valley on Wednesday, November 2nd and host Edmonds on Tuesday, November 8th at 7pm for Sophomore Night.
Women’s Soccer has also clinched a spot in the NWAC Playoffs. The Phins got a big 3-1 win at Edmonds on Saturday, October 22nd. All three Shoreline goals came from the duo of Madisson Lowdon and Makenzie Sjoden. Lowdon opened the scoring for the Phins with a goal off a Sjoden assist in the 40th minute. Lowdon made it a brace with a second goal in the 67th minute. Sjoden then extended the Phins lead to 3-1 with a goal off a Lowdon assist in the 69th minute.
The Phins then hosted Everett on Wednesday, October 26th as part of our final Fall Sports Triple Header of the season. In rainy and muddy conditions the Phins failed to get a hold of the game. Possession was hard to maintain and the Phins gave up 3 goals all on counter attacks. The 0-3 defeat dropped the Phins to 6-4-4 in the North Region and 8-4-4 overall.
The Phins travel to Whatcom for the final match of the North Region schedule. Shoreline currently sits 2 points behind Everett for 2nd place. The Phins need to win and hope for an Everett tie or loss to move into 2nd place and the chance to host an NWAC Playoff first round match. We will have all the info for you here on Monday!
Men’s Soccer capped off their home schedule with a big win over Everett on Wednesday, October 28th. The Phins got goals from Terrell Norris, Noe Ellen, Angel Alcaraz and John Crate to take the 3 points with a 4-2 victory. The Phins are now 5-0-9 in the North Region and 6-0-10 overall. They are eliminated from the NWAC playoffs but have a chance for a statement game against 2nd place Whatcom on Saturday, October 29th.
