The Shoreline Dolphins Volleyball team closed out their regular season schedule on Tuesday, November 8th with a match against North Region rival Edmonds Community College. The Phins started the night with a celebration of The Phintastic Five Sophomores – Taylor Alexander, Carlie Howard, Kyla Pitzman, Kristina Nielsen and Josie Dalrymple all played their final home game in a Shoreline uniform. The ladies completed one of the most successful two year runs of any class in the program’s history. Last year the Phins won their first North Region title since 2011 and finished 5th at the NWAC Tournament. This season has been just as strong as the Phins came into their Wednesday match with a 9-2 record in the North Region and an 8 match winning streak in which the Phins had only dropped 2 sets.
Wednesday night the Phins celebrated their Sophomores with another dominating performance. Shoreline swept Edmonds by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-13. The Phins were led by their Sophomore hitters. Alexander and Nielsen combined for 25 kills and Alexander added 9 digs. Howard had 34 assists from her Setter position as well as 5 digs. Julia Clack led the team with 15 digs and fellow Freshmen Ashlee Conklin also finished in double figures with 12 digs.
With the win the Phins move to 18-12 overall and finished their North Region schedule with a 10-2 record. Shoreline finished in 2nd place in the North Region just one game back of Bellevue. The Phins now look to focus on the NWAC Championship Tournament November 16th-20th at the Tacoma Convention Center. The Phins have won 9 straight matches having only dropped 2 sets since October 12th. The Phins will open their NWAC Championship run with a match on Thursday, November 17th at 2pm against the 3rd seed from the South Region.
Players of the Week
Two more Phins have been recognized by the North Region as Players of the Week. Taylor Alexander was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Alexander leads the team in both Kills and Attack Percentage. Freshmen Libero Julia Clack was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week. Clack leads the Phins in Digs averaging 4 Digs per set and a total of 165 on the year.
