Phins Basketball Sweeps Again

Men’s and Women’s Basketball hosted North Region rival Edmonds on Wednesday, January 18th. Men’s Basketball came into their match up fresh off a big road win at Whatcom looking to start a win streak. The Phins started the game focused on the defensive end as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the contest. Edmonds battled back in the first half but never overtook the Phins as Shoreline held a 45-35 lead at the half time break. In the second half the Phins extended their lead to 23 points and cruised to a 92-73 victory.

In the win the Phins were led by Anddrew Hawkins’ 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Dana Abe added 14 points and 5 assists. Jacob Perkins led the team with 10 rebounds on his way to a double-double with 10 points. Abdul Mohamed scored 12 points and added 4 assists. Point Guard Ben Steinbrueck led the team with 6 assists to go with 5 rebounds and 5 points. Payton Tirrell came off the bench to add 8 points and grab 5 boards.

With the win the Phins move to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in the North Region. Shoreline hosts Skagit Valley on Saturday, January 21st at 4pm.

Women’s Basketball was coming off their own big road win with an 80-75 victory over Whatcom. This time out the Phins dominated play from the jump taking a 44-25 lead into the half. In the second half the Phins relied on their balanced attack to extend their lead and earn an 85-48 North region win over Edmonds.

The Phins were led in scoring by Enjunay Jones-Lee and her 18 points. Jones-lee also dished out 6 assists. Paris Sanders got her second double-double in a row with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jamia Moore just missed a double double of her own as she scored 12 points to go with her 8 rebounds. Brea Woods, Taylor Carpenter, and Janaya Williams rounded out the double digit scorers for the Phins with 14, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

Shoreline hosts 1st place Skagit Valley on Saturday, January 21st at 2pm. The Phins are now 5-8 on the year and 2-1 in the North Region.
