Women’s Basketball made history on Saturday night when they defeated perennial North Region power Skagit Valley for the first time in school history. The Phins battled back from a slow start in which they trailed 10-17 after the 1st quarter. Shoreline pulled within 1 point at the half trailing just 30-31. The game was won in an exciting 4th quarter where the Phins outscored Skagit Valley 22-13 to take a 66-63 victory.
Shoreline was led by Enjunay Jones-Lee’s 26 points and 7 rebounds. Janaya Williams chipped in 21 points including 5 big three pointers. Dani Hayes scored 6 points and dished out 6 assists. The Phins scored 21 points off turnovers and outscored Skagit Valley 15-0 from the three point line.
With the win the Phins move into a 4-way tie for 1st place at 3-1 in the North Region. Shoreline is 6-8 on the season. Shoreline goes on the road for the next 4 games beginning with a 5pm contest on Wednesday, January 25th at Bellevue College.
Men’s Basketball dropped their second overtime game of the early North Region tilt – this time to Skagit Valley. Shoreline trailed by 4 points at the half and by as many as 13 points in the 2nd half. The Phins came back to take a 1 point lead on two occasions late in the game but could not take control of the contest. Anddrew Hawkins hit a last second 3 pointer to send the game to overtime, but the Phins could not recover from poor free throw shooting in the final stanza. Shoreline dropped the game by a score of 82-85.
In the loss the Phins were led by Dana Abe and his 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Hawkins added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Abdul Mohamed 12 points, 5 rebounds, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Ben Steinbrueck scored 11 points to go with his 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
With the loss the Phins drop to 9-6 on the year and 2-2 in the North Region. Shoreline is currently tied for 4th place with their next opponent Bellevue College. The Phins travel to Bellevue on Wednesday, January 25th for a 7pm tip off.
