Men’s and Women’s Basketball traveled to Bremerton on Saturday, January 28th for a basketball double header against North Region rival Olympic College. Women’s Basketball came into their contest with Olympic holding a 3-2 record in the North Region. In the midst of a 4 game road trip the Phins struggled to get comfortable from the field. The Phins shot 25% from the field, 7% from the 3 point line, and 56% from the Free Throw line. Shoreline forced 30 turn overs to keep the game tight as they entered the 4th quarter down just 1 point despite their shooting woes. In the waning minutes Olympic hit clutch free throws to hold out for a 48-43 win.
The Phins were led by 19 points from Enjunay Jones-Lee. Paris Sanders led the team with 14 rebounds. The loss drops Shoreline into a tie with Everett for 4th place in the North Region. The Phins are now 3-3 in the North Region and 6-10 overall. Shoreline is right in the middle of a stretch of 4 straight road games. Next up the Phins close out the 1st round of North Region play with a trip to Everett on Wednesday, February 1st at 5pm. A win gives the Phins sole possession of 4th place heading into the second half of North Region play.
Men’s Basketball entered their Saturday contest coming off a 2 game losing streak in which the Phins lost two heartbreaking games – 1 in overtime and another by just 3 points. This time out the Phins used stifling defense to make sure the game would not come down to the final few minutes. Shoreline held Olympic to just .73 points per possession along with holding them to just 36% shooting. The Phins forced 30 turnovers and limited Olympic to just 54 points on their way to a 68-54 victory.
The Phins were led by 25 points and 8 rebounds from Dana Abe. Jacob Perkins scored 10 points to go with his 8 rebounds. Ben Steinbrueck added 13 points and 7 assists with just 1 turnover. Anddrew Hawkins scored 12 points and led the team with 4 steals.
The Phins are now 3-3 in the North Region and 10-7 overall. Shoreline is in a 4 way tie for 3rd place in the tightly contested North Region. The Phins close out the first round of North Region play with a trip to Everett on Wednesday, January 31st at 7pm.
