Men’s and Women’s Basketball Get Key Road Wins at Edmonds

Men’s and Women’s Basketball traveled just down the road to Edmonds for a pivotal North Region contest on Wednesday, February 16th. Women’s Basketball has found themselves in a must-win situation since dropping a game at Peninsula to start the 2nd round of North Region play. After that loss the Phins dropped two games behind 4th place in the North Region standings, but Shoreline has performed well with their backs to the wall. On Saturday, February 11th the Phins pulled out a win over Whatcom and Shoreline kept their momentum with a big win over Edmonds. Shoreline dominated play from the jump winning 3 of 4 quarters and turned an 8 point half time lead into a comfortable 72-48 victory.

The Phins won every major statistical category. Shoreline shot 44% from the field and 30% from the 3 point line while holding Edmonds to just 30% shooting. The Phins won the rebounding battle 44-33 and forced 24 turn overs. Shoreline was led by Enjunay Jones-Lee’s 18 points. Brea Woods came off the bench to score 14 points. Paris Sanders scored 10 points to go with her 5 rebounds. Janaya Williams came close to her first triple double with 9 points, 11 rebounds and 8 steals.

With the win the Phins are now 5-5 in the North Region and 8-12 overall. Shoreline takes their 2 game winning streak on the road to Skagit Valley on Saturday, February 18th for a 5pm tip off. The Phins return home on Wednesday, February 22nd to take on Bellevue at 5:30pm – SCC is hosting “Pack the Stands Night” and the first 100 fans will get a Shoreline ‘Game Day” T Shirt.

Men’s Basketball found their stride in the North Region and entered Wednesday night’s game against Edmonds on a 4 game win streak. The Phins made it 5 straight and moved into a 3 way tie for 1st place with an 86-71 victory over Edmonds. Shoreline relied on their league leading defense to extend a 40-21 halftime lead into a 75-44 advantage half way through the 2nd half. Edmonds shot the ball well down the stretch and got within 14 points before falling by the 16 point margin.

Shoreline was led by Dana Abe’s 21 points and 8 rebounds. Joe Ghebrehiwot scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Anddrew Hawkins had a rough night shooting but led the team with 9 rebounds. Will Luckett and Jacob Perkins combined for 17 points and 11 rebounds. Payton Tirrell added 9 points.

The Phins are now 7-3 in the North Region and 14-7 overall. Shoreline is now in a 3 way tie for 1st place with Bellevue and Peninsula. Prior to their 5 game win streak the Phins had lost 2 in a row – one of those losses came against their next opponent the Skagit Valley Cardinals. Shoreline travels to Mt. Vernon to take on Skagit Valley on Saturday, February 18th at 7pm in their last road game of the season.
