Softball hosted Everett on Tuesday, April 4th for an NWAC North Region doubleheader. Game 1 was a high scoring back and forth affair as each team flexed their offensive muscle. Everett jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a grand slam in the top of the 3rd. The Phins pulled one run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Dakota Green home run. In the bottom of the 4th the Phins scored 5 runs to take a 6-4 lead. Everett scored 11 runs in the next 3 innings to run away with a 15-6 victory. In the loss the Phins were led by Hope Lawrence and Maleah Woodley. Both Phins had multi hit games along with 2 RBIs apiece.
Game 2 began much like game 1 with Everett taking an early lead and the Phins battling back to regain control. The teams finished the 4th inning tied at 3 – then proceeded to score 3 runs each in the 5th to remain tied at 6. Everett scored in the 6th, but the Phins answered in the 7th to force extra innings. In the top of the 8th Everett exploded for 5 runs to take a 12-7 lead. The Phins could not muster another comeback and dropped game 2. Lawrence and Woodley again led the Phins from the plate. Lawrence had 4 RBis in the game and Woodley added 2 hits with a run scored. Cheyanne Garcia had 2 doubles, a run scored and an RBI.
The Phins are now 2-12 on the season and 1-9 in the North Region. The Phins travel to Bellevue on Wednesday, April 12 for a doubleheader. Shoreline will host Olympic on Friday, April 14th at 12:30pm and 2:45pm at Hamlin Park.
