Baseball Splits With Olympic

Phins Baseball took on North Region rival Olympic College over the weekend beginning with a doubleheader in Bremerton on Saturday, April 8th. In game 1 the Phins scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning and added 3 in the top of the 7th to take a 5-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Olympic finally got to starting pitcher Trey Lopez scoring 5 runs to take a 6-5 lead that they would not relinquish. In the loss the Phins were led by the top of their lineup. Leadoff batter Kory Longaker had a double, scored a run and had an RBI. Harrison Jacobs matched Longaker with a run scored and an RBI. David Becker had a multi hit game including a double. He also scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

In game 2 the Phins flipped the script on Olympic. Trailing 4-6 heading into the 9th inning the Phins mounted a comeback capped off by Brice Foster’s single that scored the game winning run. Foster also got the win as he pitched the bottom of the 9th keeping Olympic scoreless and holding onto a 7-6 win.

On Sunday the series turned to Meridian Park. Shoreline gave up 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but a Becker 2 run home run in the bottom half of the inning tied the score at 2. The Phins went on to add 2 more runs in the 1st to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd inning facing an 0-2 count Jacobs took a hanging curve ball and deposited it over the left field fence scoring the winning run in what would be a 14-4 final. Trevor Clark pitched 4 innings and got the win with Sean Ferdig closing out the final 3 innings of the game. Becker came up a double short of the cycle going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Matt Meraz went 2 for 2 on the day including a bases clearing double for 3 RBIs.

In game 2 the Phins took an early 1 run lead. Olympic answered in the 4th with 2 runs of their own. Shoreline took back the lead in the bottom of the 5th scoring 2 runs for a 3-2 lead. Olympic scored 3 in the top of the 6th and Shoreline could not answer. Olympic held off the Phins’ late come back attempts taking the game 5-4.

The weekend split moves Shoreline to 16-9 on the season and 4-4 in the North Region. The Phins sit in 3rd place and play Edmonds over the weekend. Shoreline will take the short trip up Aurora on Saturday, April 15th for a doubleheader. The series will return to Meridian on Sunday, April 16th with the first game of the doubleheader starting at 12:30pm.
