Volleyball– The Phin’s opened up their season on Saturday, August 26th and continued action on Sunday the 27th. SCC participated in 6 matches over the 2 days down in Springfield and compiled a record of 2-4 defeating Highline and Walla Walla on Day 1. The Phin’s matched up against some tough competition and are sharpening their game for NWAC North play which starts September 20th at Skagit Valley. This week SCC will face Walla Walla and Linn Benton over at Bellevue College. Next week the Dolphins will travel to matches down in Lakewood on Wednesday, September 6th as well as in Everett for the Trojan Invitatoinal on Saturday. Reminder that the Dolphins first home match will be September 22nd vs. Edmonds at 7pm.
Women’s Soccer– The Women’s Soccer program participated in the NWAC Friendlies at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila last Thursday and Friday August 24th and 25th. On Day 1 the Phin’s dropped their match to Walla Walla 4-0 but came back on Day 2 and battled for a 0-0 tie versus Southwest Oregon. The ladies next play September 9th opening up the NWAC North home slate against powerhouse Peninsula at Noon.
Men’s Soccer– The Men also opened up their 2017 season at Starfire Sports Complex in NWAC Friendly action, Thursday and Friday. They took on Blue Mountain and Wenatchee Valley. The Phin’s won both matches defeating BMC 5-0 and WVC 5-2. Freshman Pedro Castro from Burien, WA scored 5 goals in those two contests. He currently leads the NWAC in goals scored, while goalkeeper Genero Ruiz is currently 2nd in the NWAC in goal saves with 20. The Men took on NWAC Champ Tacoma Community College at home on Tuesday August 29th and eventually fell 4-1. The Phin’s fought hard to tie it up on a goal by Hector Martines in the 63rd minute but TCC pulled away with three late goals to take the match. Pedro Castro notched the assist in the game putting him 3rd in the NWAC in assists with two in this early season.
