MBB: Struggles vs. BC, but Rebound vs. OC

January 29, 2018

SHORELINE, WA

The Shoreline Community College Men’s Basketball team had an action packed week of games. The week started off with Bellevue College coming to campus for “Pack The Stands” Night which was a success as we saw so many great alums, students, faculty and staff. It was a big day for Shoreline pride, but a day for the Bellevue Bulldogs on the court.

Bellevue was victorious over the Dolphins by a final of 74-61. It was a two point lead for the Bulldogs at half after a great two minute stretch by the Phin’s that trimmed the lead from 9. Looking at the numbers, it was not a good shooting night for SCC and that really told the story. Shoreline shot only 35.6% from the field, 15.4% from three while Bellevue shot 45% from the field and 26.7% from three. Terrell Brown, Jr. led all scorers with 32 points on 13 for 31 shooting, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a block and a steal. Savon Miles who has been trending upward as of late logged in 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Saturday January 27th, the Dolphins played host to Olympic College as the Phin’s rebounded nicely.

From the jump Shoreline controlled the game in all phases. Shoreline shot 53% from the field, 40% from three and 90% from the foul line. They also outrebounded the Rangers 44-22, doubling up OC in that major category allowing many second chance points. The Bellevue game must of woke up the Phin’s and point guard Darnell Barry in particular. Barry finished with 31 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal, 12 of 19 from the field. Terrell Brown, Jr. had a very efficient game resulting in a double double 24 points and 12 rebounds and dropping 6 dimes. Noteworthy, was also the emergence of Dawit Nuguse thrust back into the starting lineup who was productive with 14 points and 8 boards. Also much needed was Shemere Ffrench back from injury scoring 11 off the bench while grabbing 6 rebounds. An old coach once told me if you win the rebounding battle you win the game and when Shoreline doubles you up on the boards they get more shots and will turn it into a lop sided victory, this time 93-72 over Olympic College.

Shoreline currently is in a three way tie for 3rd place in the North sitting at 3-3 (7-10) overall. Come on out Wednesday to support the Phin’s at 7:30pm as they host first place Everett CC.
